Polish Masters of Arts is a Facebook page dedicated to Polish artists. “This is a project whose main goal is to discover the wealth of Polish art With the use of new media and proving that they can be an excellent medium to develop artistic passions and interests, inspire others and to promote Polish culture around the world ” – writes the author of Fanpage Kamil Śliwiński about his initiative.
The Polish artist painted the Mother of God. Caused indignation
Among the works published by Śliwiński, there was recently a unique picture of Wojciech Pietrasz entitled “Song”. “I was afraid that he could be badly received and I wondered for a long time whether to throw him into the network. For me, it is a very sad and reflective picture about devaluation of values, holiness, etc. about the passing of the world we know ” – wrote Śliwiński in the description of the work from 2025.
The creator of the Polish Masters of Arts was right, the picture evoked A huge stir in the comments. Wojciech Pietrasz created own interpretation of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa, which is an important symbol for many Poles. The figure, like Jesus he holds in his arms, has Black, reminiscent of a charred face and very clear, inhumanly blue eyes.
In the comments below the post there was a misunderstanding and even rejection of this kind of art. “Congratulations, you offended everyone” – writes one of the commentators. “I haven’t seen anything worse in my life”“This is profanation”, “terrible”, “Fashion now for insulting religious feelings” – add others. Pietrasz’s work apparently fulfills its task, because it caused the recipients of extreme emotions. A significant part of the commentators saw great value in “Song”.
Wojciech Pietrasz raises emotions with his paintings. Where does he get inspiration from?
“Beautiful”, “I want to have her”, “poignant and very deep”, “A great artist!”, “I like it, raises a lot of emotions” – write the artist’s work defenders. The attentive observers even put the theory that the image could refer to Erzuli Dantor or the Haitan deitywhose image comes from Our Lady of Częstochowa, she came to Haiti with Polish legionaries fighting for Napoleon. It is still one of the most famous and clear examples of the influence of Poles on the island’s culture today.
Some commenting on the painting of Wojtek Pietrasz accuse the artist of the lack of ideas and the deliberate “insulting the Mother of God” in order to achieve publicity. However, it is enough to see that Darkness and macabre are an integral part of the artist’s entire work. The motifs used by Pietrasz always raise opposition, anger and misunderstanding for many years, regardless of the medium used by the creators to tame them. Death, decay, rot is an integral part of horror or metal music often banned in many communities. However, reluctance and prejudice to this type of content are not their substantive criticism.
Wojtek Pietrasz comes from the Podkarpackie village, and his childhood memories are a great inspiration for the works he creates. The artist emphasizes that Niebylc’s life flowed “according to the cycle determined by the seasons and the associated sowing, harvesting and dying”. Also, the name of the place itself refers to non -existence and is an allegory to his work – we could read in the announcement of the exhibition in which he took part. “Pietrasz creates dark, disturbing and at the same time not without a sense of humor” – writes about the painter of Polish Art Now, which shows that it is worth having a distance to the artist proposed by the artist. We invite you to participate in the poll and commenting.
