We give up cash more and more often. Paying with a card, watch or phone is faster, more convenient and theoretically safer. We do not have to count small, we do not risk losing banknotes. However, in this modern carefree, we often ignore something that can be extremely important: transaction confirmation. Oh, the insignificant paper that is tangled in the pockets. But what if its lack means problems that are difficult to solve later?
What is confirmation of card payment? Printout from the cash register is an important “paper”
This is an inconspicuous scrap, which often lands in the basket, but in fact it is proof that the transaction has actually reached. Confirmation of card payment is a printed document by the payment terminal, thanks to which it is known that the payment has been verified and accepted. The owner of the card receives them immediately after the purchase, in case you need to prove that the foam was actually taken.
On confirmation you will find some important information:
- The date and time of the transaction – in the event of any ambiguity, you can easily check when the payment occurred.
- The amount of purchases – i.e. how much was actually paid. Useful when something is not agreed on the account statement.
- The name of the seller – helps to identify, the transaction has been made. Useful if you pay on the go.
- Reference number – a unique transaction code that makes it easier to complain or explain any problems.
- The last four numbers of the card – for security, the full number is not printed, but thanks to this you can make sure that the transaction has been made by card.
Is the cashier obliged to ask for confirmation? The recipes say it clearly
Not everyone knows about it, but the cashier is not obliged to print your card payment, unless the customer asks. The same applies to stores that do not need to store such documents, unless they require this contract with terminal operators. In practice, this means that if you have ambiguities on your account, the seller is unlikely to help you explain them, because he will simply not have it in the world proof. This does not mean that checking is impossible. Shops have access to the history of the terminal operations, but insight into this data is limited and often requires contact with the payment operator. If the customer has no confirmation, the complaint may be more complicated and time consuming. Therefore, the next time you hear “Print confirmation?”, It is worth considering the answer before you wave your hand. And you? Are you taking confirmation of card payment?
