Stanisława Walasiewicz was born in 1911 in Wierzchownia near Górzno in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. When she was 14 months old, her parents emigrated to the United States and the family settled at Cleveland, Ohio. She already achieved success in sport as a teenager. She competed, among others, in athletics competitions for juniors. It was close, and she would represent the USA, because the authorities tempted her with a vision of citizenship.

At that time, American law ordered an autopsy to be carried out in the event of unnatural deaths. And so it happened in the case of Stanisława.
