Jon Irazabal, former president of Durangoko Azoka, dies

Jon Irazabal, who was director of Durangoko Azoka for several years, died early Thursday morning at the Galdakao hospital. An expert on the history of Duranguesado, he published several books on the period of the Civil War, among others.

Irazabal was born in Iurreta in 1960 and joined the Gerediaga association at the age of 17, where he has carried out tireless work. For example, he highlights the work he carried out for more than three decades in the organisation of the Basque book and record fair in Durango, of which he was director for about 20 years. The association has published a message of condolence on social media:

In addition to books, his great passion was history. He was a great expert in the history, customs and culture of Duranguesado and made his knowledge known through more than a dozen published books, among which stand out Durango, March 31, 1937, the bombing and Iurretako kofradiak: iraganari etorkizuna ematenabout the brotherhoods of the Biscayan municipality.
