Jaszczukiewicz discovers the secrets of “From Kindergarten to Opole”. This is how the famous scream meter worked

If you watched , you certainly remember the famous shout meter. It was this device that measured which performer received the most applause from the audience. Now it turns out that a qualified person was actually responsible for measuring the applause. “It was a live person inside! A doctor of sound science from the Gdańsk University of Technology, who came with his mysterious suitcase, in which he had a decibel meter,” Juszczakiewicz recalled.

In this way, the modest budget for this format was also significantly reduced. “The costs were so high that the producer decided to save money, so we did not create a device inside that would automatically measure this sound level. The intermediary between the decibel meter and the applause from the audience was the engineer,” he said.

Many are probably wondering whether there was a risk of a mistake. According to Juszczakiewicz, there was no such possibility, because the decibel meter that was used was professional and the measurements he made were reliable. “He would quietly enter the booth, he had a chair, he had a hole through which he would stick the tip of the decibel meter and start measuring. There was a delay, he would inform us after some time, sometimes after a second or two. We have to remember that this was a scientific measurement,” the host of the show concluded.
