John Aprea died on August 5, but the news of his death has only just reached the American and then the world media. The actor died in Los Angeles surrounded by his closest family, his manager Will Levine told CBS News.

John Aprea was a descendant of Italian immigrants. During his nearly 60-year career, he appeared in dozens of American productions. He specialized in action films and supporting roles, and because of his distinctive appearance, he was often given stereotypical roles as Italian mafiosi.
At the beginning of his career, he got a role in the second part of “”, the hit by Francis Ford Coppola. He played the young Tessio – a supporting role and additionally inherited from the older actor, Abe Vigoda, but important for the plot. However, he heard from him the advice that he later followed throughout his life. When asked “how to play his character”, Vigoda replied on the phone that he had no idea, but to have fun. And so it was – this rule was to become a motto in relation to his subsequent roles, as we read in “The Hollywood Reporter”.
Despite the “fun” he had on sets, Aprea, as people who worked with him now reminisce, was a consummate professional no matter how big or small the production was. He treated niche B-movies with the utmost respect, just like Hollywood blockbusters. After The Godfather Part II, he landed minor roles in movies and supporting roles in series, including Full House, where he played Nick, Jesse’s uncle’s father.
In the 1980s, he landed a spot on the soap opera Another World, where he played his lawless character for over 400 episodes until his death. His role in Knots Landing earned him a nomination for Best TV Villain.
