They asked Ewa Bem what she thought about sanah. “I swear, I don’t know who sings it”

– It’s not a genre of singing that interests me, let alone fascinates me – began Ewa Bem, when asked about sanah on Polish Radio. The vocalist called the “first lady of Polish jazz” emphasized that she “doesn’t want to upset anyone, but…”. How did she end her statement?

Ewa Bem was a guest on the “Weather Time” show on Polish Radio’s First Program and, when called to the board, said a few words about sanah. After the video hit the web, a rather heated discussion developed in the comments. “Finally, someone said it publicly. And who – the Great Ewa Bem” and “Who’s saying it? Half of Poland can sing Sanah songs. And who can sing Ewa B?” are fragments of just two very different opinions about Bem’s statement.

Ewa Bem about sanah: It’s a kind of children’s song, a bit “new focus”

After the singer, known for songs such as “Moje serce to jest muzyczny”, “Pomidory” and “Wyszłam za żążeń, zaraz zwrot”, said that she was not interested in sanah music, she added that in her opinion it was only a “very early” stage and “that sanah will somehow develop or develop further”. Noting that a lot of young girls today try to sing similarly, Bem added:

It’s a kind of children’s song, a bit “new focus” or something, that’s why there’s not much personality. When we sometimes listen to some news review, I swear, I don’t know who sings it, they’re all exactly the same.

Some write: “Finally someone said it”, others defend sanah

After the publication of the interview fragment on TikTok, some people started applauding Ewa Bem. They wrote: “Finally, someone said it publicly. And who – the Great Ewa Bem. I would only specify this way of singing – meowing”, “Finally, because I thought I was crazy, exactly, identically, I still think the same as Mrs. Ewa”, “There is a huge gap in quality and artistry between current singers and those from 30/40/50 years ago”, “Exactly, it is difficult to distinguish the voices of Polish singers, they could actually swap songs and each of them would sing them”.

Others defend sanah: “Mrs. Ewa’s songs were also, you could say, all the same, and at that time I definitely preferred Sipińska, Rodowicz and Majewska, because I didn’t like Mrs. Ewa’s voice. And I love sanah today”, “Mrs. Ewa, I love your songs, but I also like sanah very much, I’m 53, but I appreciate young people who have personality and for me [to – red.] This is sanah”.
