This health resort used to attract tourists from all over Poland. Located 50 meters from the beach, between cliffs, near the Orłowo pier and overlooking the sea, it tempted with its beautiful location and offer. Although it developed dynamically over the years, it was closed in 2005, and today its appearance is downright frightening.
This health resort was very popular. After 5 years it had to be expanded.
The sanatorium in Gdynia Orłowo, at 2a Zaciszna Street, was established in 1962. At that time, it was called the Holiday and Treatment House of the Trade Union of Employees of Municipal Economy and Local Industry and consisted of three storeys. Situated on the cliffs right by the beach, it quickly gained popularity among spa guests, who visited it in great numbers. For this reason, five years later, a decision was made to expand the building. Another, third floor was built, as well as a small extension. In total, it had five storeys, and a characteristic place was a canteen in the form of a rotunda, which was located in one of the wings. It was from there that one could admire the sea.
The facility operated all year round and offered 160 beds in 1, 2, 3 and 4-person rooms. Beautiful surroundings and relatively low prices meant that it could not complain about the lack of patients. Especially since, in addition to rehabilitation stays, recreational trips were also organized there, and the offer also included special events such as christenings and weddings. A large conference room allowed for conferences and training sessions.
The resort was closed due to a landslide. Today, it looks scary.
The centre operated until 2005 (although some sources say it was closed a year earlier). Unfortunately, due to a nearby slope collapsing, it was closed, and all the equipment and furnishings began to disappear at a rapid pace. It fell into ruin just as quickly. Today, it looks like a scene from a horror movie – the windows are missing, the interior is demolished, the plaster is crumbling, and the walls are decorated with numerous graffiti. There have also been several cases of arson. Over the years, it has been in the hands of various entities, and there have been many plans to use the land (including an apartment building, but the local development plan did not allow this, and in 2019, the mayor of Gdynia did not allow residential functions to be implemented there). Currently, the abandoned centre is visited only by vandals and horror enthusiasts. However, it must be admitted that even in this form it makes a huge impression, although definitely different than in the years of glory. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
