“Wielka Warszawska” is to be a film made on a grand scale, in which, in addition to actors, stunt horses appear, but also real racing horses. To realistically convey the dynamics of horse racing during the acting scenes, a special mechanical mockup of the horse was built.
What is the film “Great Warsaw” about, starring Tomasz Ziętek?
– I started my adventure with horse riding in February. Since then I have been learning, I am still learning, ladies and gentlemen, I am still learning, to quote a classic. And we ride quite a lot here for film conditions. For such close-up shots we use a machine modeled on a trainer on which jockeys train, but in general plans we actually ride stunt horses that we are friends with – says Ziętek, referring to President Andrzej Duda from 2018. Watch Marta Korycka’s conversation with the actor:
Tomasz Ziętek says that he had to face a certain fear of such large animals as horses, which was a challenge for him. And how does he describe the film and his character? – Here, the myth of “from zero to hero” is touched upon, so the hero’s journey is also a very interesting process. He is definitely an idealist when it comes to racing and competing with himself – says the actor.
Krzysztof Salomon, played by Ziętek, is a novice jockey from Sopot who wants to win the most famous race in Poland. When he gets the chance of a lifetime – and takes part in the race in Służewiec – he suddenly realizes that the most important thing on the track is not horses at all, but money and connections. He believes that he can change that.
The creators want to bring the 90s back on screen.
During the filming, which will last a total of 41 days over four months, mainly at the Służewiecki Track in Warsaw, almost three thousand extras will appear on the set. In addition, the production will feature period props – including 300 vintage cars, which were borrowed from motor museums and private collectors – and props related to the world of horse racing unknown to the general public.
Some of the costumes were brought from abroad, including from the famous Czech film studio in Barrandov. Most of the filmed material will require digital processing – so that modern buildings and advertisements disappear from the screen and Warsaw streets look like they did in the 90s.
In the film, apart from Tomasz Ziętek, we will see, among others, Mary Pawłowska, who is making her debut on the big screen, Agnieszka Żulewska, Marcin Bosak, Tomasz Kot and Ireneusz Czop. The script by Jan Purzycki (“Wielki Szu” and “Piłkarski poker”) was taken into his own hands by Bartłomiej Ignaciuk, who is also the director of “Wielka Warszawska”. The premiere of the production is planned for next year.
