British filmmaker David Lynch, 78, has announced in a Interview with ‘Sight & Sound’ magazine who suffers from emphysema that forces him to remain confined to his home, and therefore, to direct films in person. However, the director of feature films such as ‘Mulholland Drive’ and the series ‘Twin Peaks’, has also confirmed that he will not retire “ever”.

In addition, Lynch confirmed this information through her X profile where she said: “Yes, I have pulmonary emphysema. due to so many years of smoking. I have to say that I have enjoyed smoking very much and I do love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes, smoking them – but there is a price to pay for that enjoyment. And the price for me is emphysema. I now have to stop smoking for at least two years. I have recently had a lot of tests and the good news is that I am in great shape, except for the emphysema. I am full of happiness and I will never retire”

Pulmonary emphysema is a chronic disorder which causes the lungs to become blocked and makes breathing difficult, so by being isolated, he avoids the risk of contracting a respiratory disease. One of its symptoms is that he can only walk short distances, since his lungs do not function properly and leave him without air.
