“Since the news of the planned electricity price increases from July, it’s as if the devil has entered my husband. He analyzes our bills like a savage and looks for savings wherever he can. He even bought himself a meter that checks the exact electricity consumption of all devices plugged into sockets. And so for several months now he’s been going around the entire house, plugging in all the devices, even the smallest lamps, and checking how much each “consumes”. He’s got a notebook and is writing down his conclusions. “And what did he conclude?” you ask. I’m telling you now.”
Kamila’s husband is looking for savings wherever he can. “I have the impression that he has become paranoid”
“Replacing light bulbs with energy-saving ones doesn’t surprise anyone. I’ve been trying to do this for years, because it’s better for us and the planet. The TV has to be set to the lowest brightness, it was already a shock. It doesn’t matter that when we watch some “dark” series, we have to look closely and ruin our eyesight. The hit was when he asked if I really had to turn on the bedside lamp in the evening. I’m not going to read by candlelight! When I stand in front of the fridge for more than 10 seconds, he grows up next to me and closes it. And when I put the washing on, he checks if the whole drum is full.
I understand that we need to tighten our belts a bit, but this is really bordering on madness. What we save on electricity will have to be paid for an eye test and new glasses. Yes, we have to be a little more careful, but it’s not like we won’t have something to put in the pot if this bill gets a bit higher. I have the impression that my husband has become paranoid and I don’t know how to get him out of it. I hope that this first bill after the price increases will calm him down a bit. Best regards, Kamila”.

How to save electricity?
Indeed, electricity price increases can keep many people awake at night. However, it is difficult to completely turn off all the devices we use every day. What is worth doing instead? We can find a lot of tips on the government website. Here are a few of them:
- “Turn off power-consuming devices (TV, computer, charger, radio) if you are not using them at the moment.
- Turn off the lights in a room if you are not currently there.
- Before purchasing home appliances (e.g. washing machine, refrigerator) check if they have the highest energy class.
- Do not use additional artificial lighting if daylight/natural lighting is sufficient.
- Replace your light bulbs with energy-saving ones.
- Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when they are full. Choose eco programs.
- Whenever possible, shift energy-demanding activities to times outside of morning and evening peak energy demand.
- Try to remove products from the refrigerator efficiently.
- In an electric kettle only boil as much water as you need at any given time“.
