A fire broke out at Comic Con. Attendees didn’t run away because they thought it was a promotion for the series

Another edition of the Comic Con event was held in San Diego until Sunday, July 28. The event promoted, among other things, a new series from the DC universe, “Penguin” with Colin Farrell. During a panel devoted to the series, a fire broke out.

Starting July 25, San Diego Comic Con took place over four days. It is a comic book convention held in California since 1970. Initially, the event mainly featured comics, but today it is one of the world’s largest celebrations of popular culture and entertainment covering almost all genres. The event is attended by about 130,000 people each year.

Fire at Comic Con: “Penguin” TV Series Promotion in Progress When Smoke Appears

Friday night didn’t end as planned for the attendees. A fire broke out at a panel dedicated to the premiere of Matt Reeves’ Batman spin-off series “Penguin.” The facility where the latest Max movie was being promoted had to be evacuated. Variety reports that the fire started at a Brazilian steakhouse that operates in the same building.

The rescue operation by the firefighters was successful, four fire trucks arrived at the scene, and the police immediately cordoned off the area. No one from the Comic Con audience was injured. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fire was not large, but it spread to the height of three residential floors and two adjacent buildings.

Comic Con attendees thought the evacuation was part of a promotion for the series “Penguin”

The event promoting the series “Penguin” was adapted to the series’ atmosphere. Bloom Nightclub looked as if it had been taken from the series set and resembled the headquarters of the character played by Colin Farrell. The room was dark, the walls were decorated with graffiti, and behind the windows you could see dancers in Catwoman costumes. As Wirtualna Polska reports, the event started at 6 p.m., an hour and a half later the lights were turned on, and security guards began to direct participants to the exit.

Some of the people gathered in the hall were convinced that the evacuation was also part of the promotion of the series. Instead of running away, the participants recorded the clouds of smoke on social media. In some cases, the police had to intervene. Just an hour after the fire department intervened, Comic Con guests were allowed to return to the building, and the event dedicated to “Penguin” continued.
