Cooking potatoes properly is one of the most essential skills to have in the kitchen. They become softer, juicier and more enjoyable to eat as they cook. But it’s all in the details. Remember to dice larger potatoes to ensure even cooking. The time to prepare them will vary depending on their size:

  • Young potatoes need 10–12 minutes.
  • Small potatoes will cook in 15–20 minutes.
  • Larger potatoes cut into cubes you will cook for 30–40 minutes.

How Much Salt Should Potatoes Be Salted? Don’t Skip This Step When Cooking Them

Salt reacts differently with different foods. For example, mushrooms should not be salted too early in the cooking process, because they can become hard. But in the case of potatoes, we should not have such concerns. It is best salt the water before you put the potatoes in it, and the water will already be boiling. Doing this before throwing in the main ingredient is an important step to give them flavor. A good rule of thumb is to use teaspoons of salt for every 0.5 kg of cooked potatoes.
