Samuel L. Jackson is considered a true veteran among Hollywood actors. His artistic achievements include many excellent roles on the small and big screen in productions such as “Do the Right Thing”, “Black Blues”, “Jurassic Park” and the cult . It was for the latter film, which premiered in 1994, that he received his first Oscar nomination in his career and also thanks to it began a long and fruitful collaboration with .
After Pulp Fiction, Jackson’s career took off. Tarantino later starred in these films
The role in Tarantino’s crime film was a huge breakthrough in Jackson’s career, contributing directly to his international popularity. He later appeared in such films as “Jackie Brown”, “Django” and “The Hateful Eight”, and also played a cameo in the hit “Kill Bill 2”. Few people know, however, that their cooperation could have begun as early as 1992 thanks to their debut title. Of course, we are talking about “Reservoir Dogs”, appreciated by both viewers and critics, for which he also wrote the script. Why did it not work out in the end?
Jackson auditioned for ‘Reservoir Dogs’, but Tarantino thwarted him
When Reservoir Dogs began filming in 1991, Jackson decided to take part. He prepared for the audition, learned the scene he had been given in advance, which, according to the arrangements, he was supposed to do with Tim Roth and Harvey Keitel. But that didn’t happen. As he revealed in an interview, the two dummies who stood in front of the camera with him were “two idiots” who not only didn’t know the dialogue, but also laughed the whole time. “They were awful,” he recalled, resentful. “I walked out and thought I wouldn’t get the job. Those guys were crap. Who the f*** was that? I had no idea,” he said.
Only later did he learn that the scene was played by… producer Lawrence Bender and Tarantino himself. Naturally, he had no idea, because the director was not yet famous, so he did not know what he looked like. In retrospect, he admitted that the memory of this situation amused him greatly, although at the time he was closer to tears. He knew perfectly well that he would not get his dream role, although he really wanted it. “My agent keeps saying that my biggest problem is the expectation that everyone will be as prepared as I am,” he revealed. However, every cloud has a silver lining. It was this casting that made Tarantino decide to write a role in “Pulp Fiction” especially for him, which took his career to the top.
