How much does it cost to support a family of four? Czarnek was happy that things were better than 9 years ago

The minimum wage goes up every six months. Many Poles benefit from this, but unfortunately, along with the salary increase, other expenses also increase. We tried to calculate the monthly cost of maintaining a family of four.

From July 1, 2024, the minimum wage is PLN 4,300 gross, or PLN 3,261.53 net. This is an increase of PLN 700 compared to the amount from July 1, 2023 (PLN 3,600 gross). For comparison, the average monthly salary in the corporate sector in the second quarter of 2024 was PLN 8,167.77 gross. 37.7% of Poles can boast such a salary.

What is the inflation rate in Poland in 2024? There is a clear decline

Prices for food products and services are also constantly rising. More and more Poles complain that they buy the same things as usual, and each time they pay a dozen złoty more. Inflation has had a large impact on this state of affairs. The worst situation was in February 2023. At that time, the CPI (consumer price index) was 18.6%. The situation is much better now, as the index showed 2.5% in May. However, this does not mean that the problem has disappeared. People live from paycheck to paycheck and wonder where they are disappearing to. The cost of living depends on several things: the number of people, the location, and the standard of living at which we want to live.

How much does it cost to support a family of four? There’s not much left in the wallet

It’s hard to keep a budget in check when you’re talking about a 2+2 family. You have to allocate money for food, fuel, rent, hygiene products, medicine. Then there are the sudden expenses, like a car breakdown or a broken washing machine. Let’s assume that the parents receive the minimum wage, which means that their total monthly net income is PLN 6,523.06 (2 x PLN 3,261.53). If they spend 2,000 on food, 3,500 on housing costs, and 500 PLN on fuel, they won’t have much left for other things or planning a vacation. Of course, 800 plus is helpful in this situation, thanks to which the family gains an additional 1,600 PLN.

In 2023, Przemysław Czarnek stated that Poles live better than before, precisely thanks to the increase in the minimum wage and PLN 500 (now PLN 800) plus. – Do you know how much the average Polish family of four had in their budget in 2015? If they were lucky and both spouses worked, because there was 15 percent unemployment, they had twice PLN 1,750. And for two children they had PLN 0. The entire budget was PLN 3,500 – he said in the Sejm. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
