The latest data from the Central Statistical Office are alarming. In 2023, the number of inhabitants of Poland was 37 million 637 thousand, which is 130 thousand less than in 2022. Polish society is aging, and the number of births is too low. The Central Statistical Office reports that since 2012 (with the exception of 2017), the population has been decreasing, and the changes are influenced by natural increase, i.e. the difference between deaths and births.
How many children are born in Poland? The latest data does not inspire optimism. There are fewer and fewer of us
From July 2023 to June 2024, i.e. in 11 months, 259.9 thousand were born in Poland. This number is decreasing, because in 2023, 272 thousand children were born, in 2022 there were 305 thousand, and in 2021 331 thousand.

The latest data is not optimistic, because it is the lowest result in history. What is the reason for such a low number of births? There are two reasons. Firstly, there are fewer and fewer women of childbearing ageSecondly the fertility rate is falling. Women most often decide to have one or a maximum of two children, when a dozen or so years ago the average number of children per woman was higher. Today, the indicator is 1.16.
How many people die in Poland every year? The results are good. The best in recent years
Not all the data is pessimistic, however. The Central Statistical Office also provided a figure and it turned out that 29,000 people died in June. It seems like a lot, but it is one of the lowest results in eight years. In the last 12 months, a total of 403.7 thousand deaths were recorded, which is much more than the number of children born.
