Can anyone borrow something in installments? That’s why the bank rejects the application. “What does it matter that I earn well?”

The times we live in are setting us up for constant consumerism. Thanks to the fact that many stores offer installment payments for purchases, we are eager to exchange phones or computers for new ones. What is needed to take installments? It turns out that everyone will get them “right away”.

Instalment purchases are very popular in Poland. We are particularly keen to choose those with zero interest, which are most often offered by online stores. An additional advantage is the quick decision to grant a consumer loan, which, depending on the bank, can take literally a few minutes. Can everyone count on split payment for their purchases?

Can I borrow something in installments without a job? To get a loan, you have to meet a minimum of formalities

Even if we have savings, any unexpected expenses can be a big problem. When, for example, a washing machine breaks down, the first thought is to buy a new one in installments. Can an unemployed person get a consumer loan?

Unfortunately, there is no such possibility. To be granted it, we must meet one of three income conditions:

  • be employed under an employment contract, a contract of mandate or a contract for specific work,
  • run your own business,
  • receive benefits, e.g. a scholarship, pension or retirement pension.

In addition, all of the following criteria must be met for our application to be positively assessed by the bank:

  • 18 years of age or older,
  • full legal capacity,
  • permanent or temporary registration in Poland,
  • the person cannot be in the notice period from employment.

A person applying for an installment loan must have an identity card or passport with them – depending on which document a given bank accepts. The document is needed to confirm identity.

What is needed to take out installments? Despite regular income, the bank may reject the application

However, steady income is not a guarantee for making installment purchases. Another important issue is creditworthiness, which is calculated based on income and liabilities stated in the application. Ewa, one of our readers, unfortunately met with a negative decision, although she did not expect it at all.

My TV broke down, so I decided to buy a new one. In order not to burden my household budget too much, I decided to take it out in installments. Imagine my surprise when the bank refused to give me a loan. It turned out that I had forgotten to pay my phone bills on time several times and I ended up on a ‘blacklist’. What does it matter that I earn well? I can’t take anything out in installments anyway. It’s ridiculous…

Why was it rejected? The bank checks our credit history in BIK and whether we are not registered in the National Debt Register. If we have had any slip-ups in the past, our name may appear in KRD for up to 10 years. Therefore, before you start applying for a loan, check whether you are not on the “blacklist” of debtors.
