“Someone sets up a booth in the middle of Sopot and demands 10 zlotys”. Prices in public toilets are shocking

Hardly anyone likes using public toilets, but sometimes circumstances force us to do so. Since it is a basic physiological need, it would seem that we should not have to pay for it. However, this happens rarely – if at all. What is more, not only do we have to pay for public toilets, but sometimes we have to reach really deep into our pockets.

The prices for using a public toilet are sometimes truly shocking. Some of us are used to the prices from years ago, when you had to pay 1-2 PLN to enter. The amounts that are currently displayed on the entrance doors sometimes make us say: “I’ll endure it” or “Okay, I’ll go into the bushes”. And it’s not clear what’s worse: littering a public space or harming your health. It turns out that there is a solution to this.

How much does it cost to use a public toilet?

We use these places all year round, but we pay special attention to them in the summer during our vacations. There are plenty of reports on the internet from irritated tourists who had to go to the site and the złoty they took with them was of little use. We wrote about one such recording in a recent article, which you can find below:

– Okay, we’re leaving the beach to go to the toilet. Let’s see what it looks like here. The toilet costs 4 zlotys. We went through the revolving door, we’ll go into the toilet in a moment. 4 zlotys, seriously? – asked the author of the video. For that amount, she expected a slightly better standard.

The situation is no better at the train station in Poznań. A complaint from a woman who wanted to get in with her son so that he wouldn’t be alone there has reverberated quite widely online, but – even though she didn’t intend to use it herself – she had to pay for two people. And the amount was not very satisfactory, namely 10 zlotys.

This fee is the national average, which ranges from 4 to even 7 PLN.

– stressed the director of the company managing the toilet in response to the allegations.

“Someone puts up a booth in the middle of Sopot and demands 10 PLN”

It is worth noting that the fees cover, among other things, the costs of water and electricity consumption, cleaning, providing hygiene products and hiring staff. However, some people are not convinced that charging such fees is justified. “In my opinion, all public toilets should be free. Should I pay for a physiological need?”, “A toilet and a glass of water in every place should be free” – we read under the TikTok recording of the author of the “Free toilets” campaign.

I’ve always thought that toilets should be free everywhere. But no, someone puts up a booth in the middle of Sopot and asks for 10 PLN…

– added another person.

“Free toilets” is an initiative that allows you to locate free toilets in our country. Like another one called “Where is the Throne”, it is based on a map that users can update, adding more points where you don’t have to dig in your pocket for change. And what do you think about fees in public toilets? If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
