Although moths can attack year-round, they are more active during the warmer months. The larvae of clothes moths feed on protein-containing materials such as wool, silk, and leather. In addition to clothing, they can also attack bedding and carpets, especially if they are dirty or contain food, sweat, or other organic matter.
This homemade method works better than store-bought traps for moths! You can make it for pennies
If you are struggling with moth infestations during the summer like I am, then you should definitely try this method. My grandmother recommended it to me. All you need is some lavender, fresh or dried, and a bag. I personally use stockings with holes that are no longer suitable for wearing. This is a great way to give them new life!

I throw the prepared bags into the wardrobe and that’s it! Moths do not tolerate the intense smell of lavender, so it effectively repels these insects. Additionally, the entire wardrobe is filled with the lavender aroma, thanks to which clothes smell wonderful for up to several weeks.
When the scent fades, simply rub the bag to release the fragrance oils again. I keep these packages for several months!
Lavender is not the only repellent! These methods will also work great
If you don’t have access to lavender, you can also try the following methods to combat moths:
- use bay leaves instead of lavender,
- Sprinkling the surface with baking soda or salt will help eliminate moths,
- Moths hate these scents and avoid places where they occur: cinnamon, thyme, rosemary and cloves.
