Another subsidy for TVP and Polish Radio from the state budget “for the implementation of missions”. The amount is impressive

For the third time, public media, including Polish Television and Polish Radio, have received financial support from the state budget. How much is the subsidy for individual companies and what will the funds be spent on?

The changes that have been ongoing since December 2023 have already been supported from the state budget twice, first with PLN 600 million and then PLN 250 million. At the end of June 2024, the Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański submitted an application to the Sejm’s Public Finance Committee for another subsidy from the earmarked reserve. This was considered positively, and the funds were to be spent from the pool intended for co-financing EU projects.

As reported by Wirtualne Media, citing findings from the Press.pl portal, the aforementioned subsidy for public media from the state budget, in the total amount of PLN 425 million, has already been transferred. The largest amount, as much as PLN 320 million, was allocated to , while the account of Polskie Radio received PLN 65 million. The remaining PLN 40 million from the pool was distributed among 17 regional public radio stations. What will these funds be used for? Declarations have already been made.

In February 2024, there was a lot of talk about the decision to stop paying subscription fees to public companies, except for Radio Katowice, Lublin, Poznań and the Mazovian Radio for You, and to deposit them in a court depository. At the time, it was explained by the chaos that reigned in the public media after the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz put them into liquidation.

As the liquidator of Polskie Radio explained in an interview with Wirtualne Media, the subsidies will be used to implement the public media’s goal. – To implement the public mission written in the duty card and the financial and program plans accepted by the National Broadcasting Council in December, i.e. for what the National Broadcasting Council withheld the subscription fee money for – Paweł Majcher explained briefly.
