They installed photovoltaics to save money. The first bill knocked them off their feet

Thousands of Poles are waiting in stress for the next electricity bill every few weeks. These can be really high. For this reason, some decide to install photovoltaic panels. The investment costs money, but in the long run it should allow for greater savings. This was the decision made by Mr. and Mrs. Bia³ka. However, some time after the installation of photovoltaics, they received a horrendous bill. How did this happen?

The Białkowie run a shop in Toki, Podkarpacie. Rising electricity prices pushed them to decide to invest in photovoltaic panels. Their installation alone is not the cheapest, they paid 90 thousand zlotys for it. However, investments of this type, in the long term, allow you to save money. The problem arose when the bills did not come at all. Someone might be happy, but it is known that this is not a good sign. Finally, after a year of waiting, it came. Its height literally knocks you off your feet.

They wanted to save money, so they installed photovoltaics. The first bill blew them away

I asked why I wasn’t receiving invoices on time. At the branch I was told not to worry, that this is often the case when you switch from another vendor, and especially when you have photovoltaics.

– said Mr. Michał Białek. He decided to report to the Polsat program “Interwencja”, after many months of unsuccessful attempts to have a substantive conversation with the electricity supplier, as well as filed complaints, which were ultimately rejected. All because of one mistake, of which he himself was not aware.

It’s hard to imagine the first reaction after receiving the bill, which amounted to a staggering 37 thousand zlotys. – After careful checking, the price of electricity was 2 PLN 10 gr, and not less than 70 gr as we had agreed. That is, three times higher than the amount we had agreed. It turned out that the energy price freeze was not applied to this collection point. Only for another building, where I already had a signed agreement with PGE, where I have zero consumption. And here I have a consumption of 10 thousand kWh per year – explained Mr. Białek.

Horrendous bill due to employee error. “Nobody wants to talk to us”

It turned out that the mistake was made by a PGE employee who was responsible for attaching to the contract an application for inclusion in the energy price freeze program. Mr. Michał did not have access to this documentation. Over the following months, he tried to reach an agreement with the supplier, but without success.

I run a shop and various situations happen: someone makes a mistake, either me or the wholesaler. But there is a phone call, a conversation, we sort things out. And here there is simply no conversation. Nobody wants to talk to us.

– said Ms. Katarzyna Białek, Mr. Michał’s wife. It was only as a result of the intervention of Polsat journalists that it was possible to reach an agreement with PGE representatives. Mr. and Mrs. Białek received instructions regarding the necessary documentation that is to help in making the correction of the bill. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
