The climate is clearly warming up, which is why it is becoming unbearable in Poland. Thermometers increasingly often show temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, and we save ourselves with fans, air conditioners and cold drinks. Heat can cause problems with concentration, fatigue or irritability. That is why the Chief Labor Inspector wants to take care of employees.
Heat at work and employee rights. Will there be new health and safety regulations?
On July 10, 2024, a meeting on the new regulations was held at the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy. It was attended by the Chief Labor Inspector Marcin Stanecki, the general director of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, Dr. Liwiusz Laska, and the director of the Central Institute for Labor Protection – National Research Institute, Dr. hab. inż. Wiktor M. Zawieska.
The changes would protect employees from high temperatures in the workplace. Experts will look at solutions used by other countries and the results of CIOP–PIB research. An example is Slovenia, whose authorities decided to introduce a maximum temperature in rooms during . It is 28 degrees Celsius.

Additional break during heatwave. Will Poland follow other countries?
– Climate change is becoming more and more noticeable and we need to respond to it appropriately. I appeal to employers to apply regulations and technical and organizational solutions that protect employees from high temperatures during the heatwaves – said Marcin Stanecki at the meeting. In other European Union member states the right to a paid break from work, rest in a cool room, and a change in the work organization were introduced so that employees had a break during the hottest days. Time will tell whether similar regulations will be introduced in Poland. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
