Lena Góra has never hidden the fact that even before she was born, she was doomed to a fascinating life, but one that was completely different from the standards accepted in society. She was born in 1990 as the daughter of punk vocalist Ela Góra, a star of such bands as Pancerne Rowery and Szelest Spadających Papierków, and Sławomir Góra. – Both were brilliant in their art and in their magical perception of the world, and devoted to it. They had the right to do so! And I managed on my own, maybe because I had no other choice – said the actress in an interview for “Wysokie Obcasy”.
Lena Góra was 9 years old when she started school. It was all because of the lifestyle she led with her parents.
Since her parents did not fit into the norms accepted in society, she also had to find her way in the rush of life that they imposed on her. She did not go to school until she was 9, because she had often changed her place of residence before, but she made up for it with intelligence and immediately started her education in the second grade. “At school, I felt like a weird duck. I was different,” she recalled, adding that she did not get along with either her peers or teachers. “When my parents came to school, dad in leather and torn pants, mom bald, you can imagine how they were judged,” she said.
Moreover, due to frequent moves, for a long time she was unable to feel at home anywhere. It was only when, as a 14-year-old, she started attending theatre workshops at the Wybrzeże Theatre that her approach changed slightly. “We were living nowhere all the time. We moved from one studio to another. I finally found some peace in the theatre,” she claimed. However, she did not stay there for too long, because only 2 years later she decided to leave for London. “I lifted up my skirt and flew,” she said on “Dzień Dobry TVN”.
This is what Lena Góra’s life in exile looked like. Today, the Polish woman is making a career in Hollywood
Life on was supposed to help her get to know herself and discover this artistic part of her soul. She earned her living as , thanks to which she often traveled and broadened her horizons. – Living in this city opened my eyes to many things – she recalled in an interview for the portal zawsze Pomorze the time when she lived in the capital of Great Britain. After 3 years on the islands, she decided to go a step further and emigrated overseas, but the mythical American dream was not at first a fulfillment of her dreams. The cost of living in New York, where she decided to settle, exceeded her financial possibilities and at one point she had no money for anything except rent and the cheapest Chinese dumplings available in the supermarket. – In the evenings, I went to dinners or parties where Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen or Kanye West were, for example, and in the morning I ate rolls from the trash bin of a Polish bakery in Greenpoint – she said.
The local film industry also disappointed her greatly, which is why she gave up acting for 5 years. At the age of 21, she married a model she met during a photoshoot, with whom she traveled around America and earned a living by renting an old, luxury car. “A shaman in the Mojave Desert gave it to us,” she said. “My wild romance ended when I finally remembered that I wanted to make films. And we got divorced, and I started writing my own scripts,” she added. Today, she is considered one of the most popular Polish actresses, also in the USA. She has roles in productions such as “Fail,” “Famale Fight Club,” “Roving Woman” and “Imago,” and she wrote the scripts for the last two. “Now I work more and more often in Poland. I am very happy about that,” she said in one of her latest interviews. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
