he made his stage debut at the age of 18, and today he is an undisputed legend of Polish rock music. He performed in many different bands, including Biała 21, CEFI or Sektor A. He gained popularity with the cult group TSA, of which he became a member in the early 1980s, and became known to a wider audience as a juror on “The Voice of Poland”.
This is what Piekarczyk did in his youth. Few people know that the vocalist was once homeless.
The most famous Polish rock’n’roller of the 80s never hid the fact that his past was full of bitter moments. In interviews, he often mentioned his firstborn, who died just a few hours after giving birth, and the betrayal of his first wife. However, he did not mention much about his life before he made a career. It turns out that after passing his high school exams, he had ambitious plans, because he wanted to get into the Military University of Technology and later to study architecture, but both attempts ended in failure. At that time, he took on various jobs to earn a living. He worked, among others, as a painter and also dealt with ceramics. However, times were hard and at one point, when he was barely making ends meet, he lost the roof over his head.
A woman he met on the street told Piekarczyk that he would become a star. He did not believe this prediction.
Homelessness was a huge challenge for Piekarczyk, but he believed that his fate would soon change. One day he met Roma women who were of the same opinion. “When I was 18 and homeless, I was sleeping in the market square in Bochnia, and I called them Indians, Roma girls came,” he said in the program. Then one of them said that at the age of 30 she would become a star. “They said: ‘Look, here is the hand of the chosen one of fate. You will travel all over the world and sing.’ That’s what they told me,” he recalled.
As you might imagine, he didn’t take these words seriously. He claimed that he had no prospects, and his situation at the time didn’t fill him with optimism at all. But then a series of events caused the prophecy to gradually come true. “On the very last day of my thirtieth birthday, I sang “Three Matches” on the big stage in Sopot. The next day I turned 30 and was already a professional musician,” he said. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
