He let her smell the perfume. “My legs refused to obey”. The old method of cheating returns

Fraudsters are using newer and newer methods to rob victims of their savings. It also turns out that some people are using methods that were popular many years ago. Recently, there was a situation where the “perfume method” was used. What is it about?

The “perfume” method involved pretending to sell scents and sticking bottles under the victim’s nose. Unfortunately, anyone who smelled such a mixture fell asleep almost immediately, and the fraudster gained time to rob them of their belongings. It would seem that this method has been forgotten, but in reality it turns out differently, as Mrs. Iwona, who lives in Bielsko-Biała, found out.

A popular method of fraud is back. Be vigilant

In a conversation with Interia, the woman told what happened to her a few days ago. Together with her husband, she runs an antique shop, which is open until 4 p.m. during the week. When she was alone in the shop, a 20-year-old girl entered the shop, who had previously thrown a full bottle of drink into the trash. The stranger stopped in the alcove of the room and waited there. “It was very disturbing to me,” Ms. Iwona revealed. After a few minutes, a 30-year-old man in a baseball cap entered the shop and offered to buy her perfume. He allegedly also sold it to Ms. Iwona’s neighbor. The woman immediately made it clear that she was not interested in buying it. “He didn’t get it,” she said.

He offered her some perfume. When she smelled it, she felt faint.

The stranger did not give up and actually stuck his open one under her nose. That was enough for the woman to feel dizzy. “My legs were failing me, I felt weak, like before fainting,” she reported. Despite her weakness, she reached for the phone and called her husband, whom she told that she felt bad because a customer had given her something to smell. She asked him to come over immediately. In the meantime, the stranger got up and left. Mrs. Iwona’s husband instructed her to close the shop and go to a neighbor’s, where she managed to get there and rest.

The woman filed a police report. She had a suspicious client the day before.

When she regained her strength, she reported the whole incident and then decided to file an official report. In her opinion, she was dealing with an organized group, because the day before, the store had been visited by a suspicious boy who looked like he was reconnoitering. The woman gave the officers a bottle from which the 20-year-old was drinking. In an interview with Interia, the police admitted that they had not received any reports of similar incidents, although it was once a popular method of theft.
