The Ruiz de Vergara palace in Vitoria is now IAKthe cultural center Izaskun Arrue Culturaland will open its doors today, “once the differences of recent months between the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council and Lazarraga Kultur Elkartea have been overcome”, explained the association that was in charge of managing Oihaneder Euskararen Etxea until June 2022.

As detailed in the presentation of the project last week in the capital of Alava, IAK was created with the intention of being “a comprehensive cultural project from the Basque language and in Basque”, beyond being a cultural facility. Therefore, its vocation is to work on the entire cultural chain: “creativity, production, staging or exhibition, communication and audiences.”

Starting in the second week of September, the autumn programme will be launched, and you will be able to see and enjoy activities from different disciplines with Basque as the “leading element”: music and live arts, family activities, cinema and audiovisuals, events and initiatives of all kinds related to education and knowledge.

Starting today, there will be guided tours, recycled games and music and festive activities coinciding with La Blanca. Three calls will be launched on July 22: Taulara, for short-format plays and monologues; Muina, a pool of proposals for all citizens who want to do some cultural activity; and Egin Leku, for new musicians.

“Whether you know Basque or not, IAK will be open to everyone because we want Basque culture to be shared by everyone. So all citizens are invited to the Izaskun Arrue Cultural Centre,” said Lukas Etxeberria Sagastume, a member of Lazarraga Kultur Elkartea.

After the summer, the programme will be presented quarterly and will be presented seasonally. The autumn programme will therefore start in the second week of September.
