The ceremony in the Krakow Church of St. Peter and Paul was led by Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś. The clergyman recalled that he knew Jerzy Stuhr personally – he sat on the hospice council together with the actor. He did not spare praise for the deceased and his acting skills:

Everyone writes that he could play anything. There was no role he couldn’t play. He could do anything – said Ryś.

Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, the vice-marshal of the Senate, also spoke about Jerzy Stuhr’s talent. She also recalled, however, that in recent years the actor, who openly took one side of the political dispute, also encountered attacks.

Every farewell is very difficult. (…) We have to face a departure that we did not want, for which we were not prepared. Obvious words come to mind: a great actor, a great teacher, a true representative of the Polish intelligentsia, a friend, a social activist, a great man. We all know that these terms, speaking of the Polish intelligentsia, sound provocative in recent times. In these times of smallness, which, unable to create anything great on its own, reached out for greatness, in order to destroy this greatness. (…)

The elite, of which Jerzy Stuhr was and will always remain an obvious, natural representative, is not an elite of empty privilege or irritating superiority. It is an elite of great, authentic talent and hard, really very hard work on craft, on acting skills, on words. Jerzy Stuhr was like that throughout his life. With his wonderful roles, weaknesses, mistakes, his wise, responsible and brave declarations. As an outstanding representative of our society in the times of populist attack on the intelligentsia, he himself became the target of these attacks. As a sensitive man, he suffered because of this. His closest relatives saw and felt it very well, but we all saw it too. Jerzy Stuhr maintained his courage in those times, did not lose courage – and most importantly – it did not reduce his work. He did not give this satisfaction to the little people attacking him – said Kidawa-Błońska.
