Amazon Prime Video has proven more than once that it is capable of investing truly substantial sums in the production of productions that can bring the platform record viewership. Among the streaming giant’s most expensive projects was “Citadel” from 2023, on which Prime spent a trifle of about $300 million.
“Citadel: Diana” – what will the spin-off of one of the most expensive Amazon Prime Video series be about?
Even before the series hit the platform, it announced upcoming spin-offs. The plans include productions set in Spain, India and Mexico, but the first to debut in the Amazon Prime Video library will be “Citadel: Diana”, set in Milan in 2030.
The series’ main writer and showrunner is Italian filmmaker Alessandro Fabbri, while Arnaldo Catinari is responsible for directing. Matilda De Angelis, known to Prime Video users from the production “The Undoing”, will play the title character. The series’ premiere is scheduled for October 10, 2024. On that day, all episodes of “Citadel: Diana” will hit the platform.
Diana’s story takes place in 2030, eight years after the Manticore syndicate destroyed the titular intelligence agency. Since then, agent Diana Cavalieri must go undercover as a spy for the enemy syndicate. When she finally manages to find a way to escape, she must form an alliance with Edo Before (Lorenzo Cervasio), heir to the Italian branch of Manticore and the son of its leader. In addition to Matilda De Angelis, the cast also includes Julia Piaton, Thekla Reuten, Giordana Faggiano, Daniele Paoloni, Bernhard Schütz and Filippo Nigro.
