A revolution in waste segregation is coming. You will be placing this waste in a completely new container

A revolution in waste segregation is coming into effect on January 1. The amended European Union regulations include the introduction of a new waste container, but not only that. What else will change?

From next year, Polish households will have a textile container next to glass, plastic, and artificial metal, bio-waste, and mixed waste containers. The changes are dictated by the huge amounts that are not recycled. In the EU, as much as 12.6 million tons are thrown away per year, but only 22% is recycled.

From 2025, clothing segregation will be mandatory. As a country, “we are not ready for this”

In Poland, used clothes would be handled by PSZOKs. – In the case of textiles, we already have a selective collection system, there are containers by the roads, and many clothing companies, expecting the introduction of new regulations next year, are already conducting selective collection in their stores, where customers can return their old clothes – said Łukasz Łyżwa, president of SRS Group.

The draft of the new segregation rules has not yet been adopted by the European Parliament, but some countries have started to introduce changes. What about Poland? – We are not ready for this, there is no ecosystem for this, and there is no technology that would allow us to return this clothing to circulation.. Today, 1 percent of clothing can be recycled, and 2025 is just around the corner. France, the Netherlands, and Sweden have already started collecting this clothing and creating an ecosystem around it. Unfortunately, in Poland, this is not discussed – admitted Ewa Janczukowicz-Cichosz, a sustainable development expert from LPP.

Will there be deposits for bottles? The changes are coming into effect soon

From 1 January, deposits will also be in force for bottles – plastic up to 3 litres, reusable glass up to 1.5 litres and metal cans up to 1 litre. Large stores will have to join the deposit system, while for smaller ones it will be voluntary. The amount of the deposit has not yet been precisely determined, but vodka bottles are to be excluded from it and for sanitary reasons there will be no deposit for milk bottles either. A receipt will not be required to claim your refund.. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
