Puffiness under the eyes is a problem that many people struggle with, and constantly staring at screens that emit blue light only intensifies it. Fortunately, there is a simple way to improve the appearance of the eye area. Our grandmothers knew it very well.

Before we get to the point, it is worth adding that we should only try this type of method if the bloodshot and irritation in our eyes is caused by fatigue or looking at the monitor screen for too long. The problem of swelling and redness of the eyes should not be ignored, especially if it is caused by allergies or eye disease. In such a situation, it is advisable to seek help from a specialist.

A chamomile compress is a rescue for your eyes

In addition to illness and allergies, eye fatigue and irritation may result from:

  • Lack of sleep. In short, fatigue, also connected with the stress experienced
  • Working in front of a computer. Staring at a screen that emits blue light for hours on end causes us to forget to blink. As a result, our eyes become tired, bloodshot, and dry.
  • Exposure to bright light. It doesn’t have to be blue light, emitted from a laptop screen or electronic devices. Spending many hours in a room with lighting that is too bright and irritating to the eyes can also make our eyes bloodshot and tired.
  • Wearing contact lenses for too long.

There is, however, an old method that will help us deal with this type of irritation. We are talking about chamomile compresses. You can make them from chamomile tea in bags or buy dried chamomile in a pharmacy or herbal store. Why chamomile? It has long been known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has antiseptic, antifungal and bactericidal effects, and is also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. We will find valuable flavonoids in it – natural bioactive compounds that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and soothing properties.

Chamomile eye compress. How to prepare it?

Chamomile is great for swollen or tired eyes. Such regular compresses also have a positive effect on the condition of the demanding skin around the eyes. To prepare it, we only need two ingredients:

  • Water
  • 1 tablespoon dried or fresh chamomile (or dried from natural chamomile tea bags)

Pour boiling water over the chamomile. Cover and brew the infusion for about 15 minutes. Then strain it and wait until it cools down completely or chill it in the fridge. All you need to do is soak popular cosmetic pads with the “mixture” and place it on your eyelids. Keep the compress on for about 10-15 minutes.
