For years, “Wprost” has been publishing a ranking of the 100 richest Poles. For six years, it has also listed the richest Polish families. So far, the Kulczyks have been in first place every year, but this year they have been overtaken by another billionaire family.
This is the richest family in Poland. It rules the pharmaceutical industry
The Kulczyk family has been winning the ranking for years. The vast majority of their wealth was the inheritance from Jan Kulczyk, who died in 2015. Dominika Kulczyk, Sebastian Kulczyk and their mother, Grażyna Kulczyk, have a combined total of PLN 16.6 billion. In 2024, however, this was not enough to be at the top of the richest Polish families. They were short of a small PLN 2.5 billion.
The rather unexpected winner of the “Wprost” ranking was the Starak family: Jerzy Starak, his wife Anna Wo¼niak-Starak, daughter Julia and son Patryk. Their assets were valued at PLN 19.1 billion. Jerzy Starak, or rather the company he owns, is the main shareholder of the largest Polish pharmaceutical company, Polpharma, as well as Polfa, which Polpharma took over after privatization. Years ago, he started by importing foreign brand products to Poland. Today, he is also the owner of Herbapol, in which he shares with his family. Jerzy Starak’s wife is also the owner of the luxurious Belvedere restaurant, operating in Warsaw’s Łazienki Park.

Who else made it to the top five? Third place in the ranking went to Zbigniew Juroszek and his son Mateusz. Senior controls the largest developer in Poland, the Atal company, and until recently his son was the owner of a private bookmaker, STS. Their fortune was estimated at PLN 7 billion. Fourth place, just off the podium, was taken by the Solorz family with a fortune of PLN 6.6 billion. In fifth place, “Wprost” placed Andrzej Furman and his sons Jacek, Wojciech and Tomasz. The fortune of the owners of Aflofarm, a manufacturer of over-the-counter medicines and supplements, was estimated at PLN 4.3 billion.
The list of the richest Poles was not without revolutions either. The “Wprost” list was headed by the owner of the Dino chain of stores, Tomasz Biernacki. A few months ago, Biernacki took second place in the “Forbes” ranking, and Michał Sołowow overtook him by “only” PLN 3.63 billion. She has definitely been the richest Polish woman for several years now, with a fortune of PLN 8.6 billion. In the March “Wprost” ranking, Barbara Komorowska, the owner of Bakoma, came right behind her, with a fortune estimated at PLN 2 billion. The podium is closed by… Grażyna Kulczyk with a fortune of PLN 1.9 billion.
