At the end of last year, TV Republika recorded a sudden increase in viewership after the public broadcaster stopped broadcasting the TVP Info channel. Soon afterwards, many leading journalists said goodbye to the station, and some of them found new jobs in Tomasz Sakiewicz’s medium. Wanting to match the standards that viewers of Telewizja Polska were accustomed to, TV Republika issued an appeal to viewers for financial support. Donations can still be made to the station’s account and through a special portal.
Millions in contributions from TV Republika viewers
Recently, TV Republika announced that it had submitted an application for a MUX-8 digital terrestrial television concession. At the beginning of July, the head of the National Broadcasting Council, Maciej Świrski, in Miłosz Kłeczek’s program on TV Republika, said: “The decision is at the stage of being legally binding. There is a procedure related to agreements with the Office of Electronic Communications. They should last about a week or two weeks.” Journalists from the Wirtualne Media portal managed to get access to the content of the submitted application. According to unofficial reports from the service, in the period from December 19, 2023 to May 20, 2024, a total of 51,340 payments from donors were transferred to TV Republika’s account, and their total amounted to PLN 6.47 million.
As reported by Wirtualne Media, TV Republika also received 2.01 million zlotys in payments from entities related to it by ownership. Of the funds collected, 2.5 million zlotys were to be allocated to the purchase of new equipment.
