has been regularly performing in Poland for years. This time the band came to Warsaw for two performances. The artists are currently promoting their latest album “72 seasons” and came up with an interesting idea to diversify the tour. The musicians visit cities all over the world and play two concerts with different setlists.
Metallica played the hit Maaanam in Warsaw
In Poland, Metallica’s performances took place on July 5 and 7 at the National Stadium in Warsaw. The musicians played their immortal hits such as “Nothing Else Matters”, “Master of Puppets” and “Enter Sandman”, but also new songs and pieces performed live much less often such as “King Nothing” and “Whiplash”. The set was not without surprises.
On the first day of the Metallica weekend, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo performed a special piece, “Back in Warsaw.” The musicians swore that the short piece was written especially for the first Warsaw concert, to celebrate the band’s return to the capital. A day later, the artists played a fragment of the great Polish hit.
“I’m still in shock”
It’s already a tradition. In 2018, Metallica’s concert in Kraków featured Dżem’s “Wehikuł czasu” and a year later, those present at the National Stadium heard Czesław Niemen’s “Sen o Warszawie”. This time, it was time to pay tribute to the Maanam group. Metallica musicians performed a fragment of “Kocham Cię, kochanie moje”, which Kora had sung for years.
Opinions on the metal band’s interpretation were divided, but the vast majority of fans were touched by the gesture. Metallica’s listeners appreciated the efforts of their idols and their desire to honor the culture of the country they visited. Recordings from the concert also reached the loved ones of Kora, who died in 2018.
The artist’s daughter-in-law, Katarzyna Zielonka, wife of Szymon Sipowicz, posted a short comment under her husband’s report from the event. “I’m still in shock. Metallica thank you! The biggest tribute to Kora and Manaam,” she wrote, thanking for the gesture and noting that it was the biggest possible tribute to Kora and Maanam that one could imagine.
