is performing as part of an international tour promoting the album “72 seasons”. For this occasion, the musicians have prepared an unusual form of concerts. In the countries they visit, the artists play the so-called “No Repeat Weekend”, which means that in one weekend you can see them at two concerts with completely different setlists.

Metallica Played Two Concerts in Poland. The Band Prepared a Sea of Surprises

Metallica’s two performances in Poland took place on July 5 and 7 at the National Stadium in Warsaw. The events were accompanied by numerous additional attractions, such as a Pop-UP Store opened especially for the occasion in the Centrum Praskie Koneser or a meeting with the iconic photographer who has been collaborating with the band for years – Ross Halfin.

There were also surprises during the performances. The setlist was no great secret for Metallica fans who had followed the band’s previous concerts, but despite this, the band wanted to surprise Polish listeners. On the first day, in addition to the band’s great hits and the latest songs from the last album, a composition written especially for the concert in Poland was performed. Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo performed “Back in Warsaw” between songs, a song that was to celebrate Metallica’s return to the capital of Poland after five years of absence.

The second concert attendees also had an incredibly moving moment. For years, Metallica have been trying to pay tribute to the culture of the country they are currently playing in. To this end, Hammett and Trujillo learn popular songs from a given city, which are then played during Metallica’s performance. As part of this tradition, in 2018 in Krakow, the musicians performed Dżem’s “Wehikuł czasu” and five years ago in the capital, fans could hear Czesław Niemen’s “Sen o Warszawie”. This time, the artists prepared the song Maanam.

Robert and Kirk played a fragment of “I Love You, My Darling” from 1983 between songs. Musically, the artists did quite well, but vocally, to put it mildly, the performance could have been improved. The band’s bassist, who once again took on the incredibly difficult challenge of singing in Polish, lost and twisted words that did not agree with the melody of the song in any way.

Fans present at the concert, despite the shortcomings of the performance of the Polish hit, were moved by the artists’ efforts and rewarded them with great applause, however, much harsher assessments of the performance have already appeared on the internet. “What kind of drama is this?”, “He can’t sing”, “Kora is turning in her grave”, “You can’t unhear this” – we read in the comments. However, many opinions appeared that in this part of the concert, the gesture was the most important thing. A large part of those watching the recordings of the performance appreciated that the stars still want to put effort into their concerts and surprise the audience.
