The increasingly high temperatures on summer nights encourage us to use a fan in the bedroom. It turns out, however, that this can be a harmful practice. Apart from cooling and improving comfort, it brings with it a number of negative effects. Check when a fan is harmful during sleep.

In the hot summer, we look for different methods to cool down and experience a bit of relief. We reach for fans or air conditioning, but this is not always a good solution for our health. Improper use of devices can lead to unpleasant consequences, so it is important to use them “wisely”.

A fan is one of the cheapest options for cooling rooms, which is why many people have one in their home. We also like to put it in the bedroom, where it not only helps with air circulation, but can also be a support when falling asleep. The device generates white noise, which perfectly masks irritating sounds from the street, so it is very comfortable to sleep with. Unfortunately, sleeping with a fan can also have negative consequences.

  • Possibility of catching a cold. By exposing your body to cold air for long periods of time, you can lower your immunity and make yourself susceptible to infections.
  • Dry eyes, skin and throat. The fan reduces air humidity, which can consequently dry out the air. This results in a sore throat, hoarseness, or eye irritation.
  • Allergy worsening. People who are sensitive to pollen and dust should be careful with the device. When air circulates, they rise and circulate around the room, which can increase symptoms such as a runny nose or cough.
  • Muscle and joint problems. If you sleep right next to a fan and your joints are exposed to the cold, you may wake up sore. The cold also has an adverse effect on the muscles, which can cause unpleasant cramps.

How to make it cooler at night? Make a few changes and your sleep will be comfortable

Warm air is not conducive to rest, so before you go to bed, air your bedroom thoroughly. However, remember to do it after sunset and never open windows during the day during the heat.. This way you will avoid letting outside air in. To cool the room faster, you can hang a wet towel or sheet on the window frames. A fan can also help, but it should be set to low speed and directed towards the wall.. The clothes we sleep in are important.
