She loves the sauna, but has stopped going. “Why are you so shy, in a towel?”

Sauna visits are associated with numerous benefits. They provide us not only with relaxation, but also have a positive effect on immunity and skin condition. However, other users often interfere with our free use of such places. Several people shared their experiences with us.

Martyna loves the sauna. That’s why when she and her husband were building a house, they decided to have this type of room. She’s happy because it means she no longer has to go to public saunas, where she never felt comfortable. “I know all the rules that say you have to go into a sauna naked. And I really always followed them. But after all those visits, I felt really uncomfortable,” she recalls.

“I left very quickly every time”

As our interviewee reveals, during her visits to the sauna she had the impression that some people were only looking at her. – I have large breasts. For this reason I don’t wear low necklines or tight clothes. I simply don’t feel comfortable when strange men look at this part of my body – says Martyna. – I thought that during my visits to the sauna no one would look at me. However, I was wrong. Women didn’t pay attention to me. But many men were only looking at my breasts the whole time. Because of this, I couldn’t relax. So I left very quickly every time – she recalls.

He was called a “pervert” because he entered a sauna naked

Marzena admits that she avoids public saunas in Poland like the plague. However, when she is abroad, she uses them willingly. – There is absolutely no understanding of what it is all about here. From my observations, it appears that the sauna is regularly packed with a happy and not entirely sober group or people in swimsuits (straight from the pool, with the characteristic smell of chlorine). Apart from that, there is staring at other people, sometimes even some jokes or allusions – she says. She also recalls a situation she witnessed a few years ago:

In one of the hotels in Kołobrzeg I saw two girls run out of the sauna screaming, “because there’s a pervert in there!” A moment later an older, noble gentleman came out. He took a shower, wrapped himself in a towel and left. Fortunately, he was a foreign tourist, so he didn’t understand that he was called a “pervert” just because he was sitting in the sauna naked.

“I felt men’s eyes on me”

Maja, on the other hand, admits that she can’t bring herself to enter a sauna naked. – I was once on a nudist beach in Italy and I didn’t have any problem with nudity there. I had the impression that no one was paying attention to me, and I have really good eyesight – reveals our interviewee.

In saunas in Poland, I don’t feel so comfortable any more. – I often felt men’s eyes on me, it was very embarrassing. I was wearing a towel then and I probably will never give it up when visiting such places. I know that many people don’t like it, but I really can’t break through on this issue – says Maja. – Once, a guy looked at me for a long time. After a few minutes, he asked: “Why are you so shy, wearing a towel?”. I wanted to answer that “it’s because of people like you”, but in the end I gave up – sums up our interviewee.
