Recently, information has appeared on the web that it is testing a free offer for its customers. This option assumes a much larger number of advertisements, the broadcasting of which will compensate for the losses from lower revenues from the subscription. The platform has reportedly already completed tests of the offer in Kenya and is considering further ones. This time in Asia and Europe.
Netflix is giving up its cheapest package for its subscribers
Currently, Netflix customers in Poland have three basic plans to choose from. Access to the service’s content in high quality 4K or HDR costs PLN 60 per month. This is a considerable amount, especially considering the fact that many people subscribe to several services with films and series at the same time. It is no wonder that users are increasingly willing to give up the highest quality of their favorite productions to pay less. Many Netflix customers not only prefer to watch films and series in quality up to 1080p (PLN 43 per month) or 720p (PLN 29 per month).
It turns out that Netflix has begun to introduce significant changes to its foreign packages. Until now, the cheapest subscription to the service cost $11.99 and allowed customers to watch their favorite productions without ads. As reported by theverge.com, information from Netflix users is already circulating on the web that they cannot renew this option.
Ad-supported packages are now a strategic priority for Netflix
The cheapest option is no longer available to subscribers in Canada and the UK and will soon be expiring in other markets. Users are forced to cancel their subscription or change their offer. They can go for an ad-supported package for $6.99 per month, a more expensive option for less than $15.50 without ads, or a premium package for $22.99. Netflix’s Greg Peters noted in an interview that the ad-supported offer is a priority for the company in the current strategy.
