Tabakalera offers a cycle of films by French director Céline Sciamma
Basque: Tabakalerak Céline Sciamma has launched films that will be released in the near future
The Tabakalera centre in San Sebastian will dedicate the months of July and August to the French director Céline Sciamma, whose work addresses themes such as identity, family, and female sexuality, and which will include five of her films and two other films that she wrote as a screenwriter.
Sciamma made her debut as a film director in 2007 with her final year project at La Fémis film school, ‘Naissance des pieuvres (Water Lilies)’, which was selected for the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Louis Delluc Award for Best First Film.
With her second film, Tomboy (2011), Sciamma was presented in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival and in 2014, Girlhood opened the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.
In 2019, her film ‘Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (Portrait of a Lady on Fire)’ became one of the most critically acclaimed films at its international premiere in the Official Section of the Cannes Film Festival, where the jury awarded it the Best Screenplay award for its emotion and delicacy.
Her next work, ‘Petite maman’ competed at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The cycle will also feature the animated film Ma vie de Courgette, directed by Claude Barras, and Les Olympiades, Paris 13e, directed by Jacques Audiard; both written by Sciamma.
