TVP apologizes. A special statement appeared in the “19.30” program

Before viewers of the news program learned what significant events had happened in the last 24 hours, they had the opportunity to read a special apology. The station apologized for materials that were broadcast during the “old” Polish Television.

– Telewizja Polska SA in liquidation apologizes to the Foundation for the Development of Local Democracy for the fact that the editions of “Wiadomości” broadcast on TVP1 on 24 and 25 October 2016 and 27 November 2016 contained false and discrediting information, casting doubt on the correctness of the Foundation’s operations and belittling its reputation – the narrator read.

The Foundation for the Development of Local Democracy commented on TVP’s apology

The Foundation for the Development of Local Democracy demanded an apology in court for a reason. The TVP material suggested that the institution was supported in particular by politicians associated with PO and PSL, and the materials reported on the improper management of acquired funds and the receipt of subsidies from public funds that should have been allocated to residents. In addition, the “Wiadomości” materials indicated that the Foundation was guided by political, non-meritorious criteria regarding the conduct of training. On December 2, 2021, the Court of Appeal ordered Telewizja Polska to publish an apology for the materials.

On July 2, TVP viewers could read a statement from the station, in which it declared that “the information about the alleged acquisition of public funds (by FRDL – editorial note) as a result of any favours from politicians was unjustified”, “all funds acquired by the Foundation did not constitute a reward, because they were provided to the Foundation in connection with the implementation of specific public tasks”, and “the structure of expenditure of funds acquired by the Foundation is correct and corresponds to the educational nature of the Foundation’s statutory activities”. Additionally, TVP emphasises that “the Foundation pursues a significant public interest, because it is one of the largest non-governmental training and advisory organisations supporting the development of local government in Poland for over 35 years”.

“We hope that public television will no longer denigrate non-governmental organizations working for the common good” – the Foundation for the Development of Local Democracy commented on TVP’s apology on social media.
