Halina Golanko was born on January 29, 1948 in Zabrze. As a child, she dreamed of appearing on screen, but the exams for the Warsaw theater school turned out to be quite a challenge for her. When she stood before the committee, the stress took its toll and when she left the room, she felt that she would not receive the desired grade. “I did not get enough points for my origin, and I was also consumed by stage fright. They accused me of having a weak voice and not being suitable for the stage,” she said when this scenario came true.
She was one of the biggest stars in the Polish People’s Republic. Halina Golanko was not ashamed to show off her charms in front of the camera
The failure did not discourage her from acting. She decided to try her hand at it the following year and focused on working at , which she had started while still a high school student. However, fate had a completely different plan for her. When she was walking in Grażyna Hase’s show shortly afterwards, her extraordinary beauty captivated Janusz Morgenstern, who offered her a role in the series “Kolumbowie”. Delighted, she accepted the offer and so made her screen debut as Ałła. The role was the fulfillment of her dreams and quickly turned out to be a ticket to a great career. Viewers loved her, critics were delighted with her talent and said that she was a real “rough diamond”.
The next roles came quickly. Just a year after her debut, she already had films such as “Five and 1/2 of the Pale Józka” with Anna Dymna and Leon Niemczyk in the main roles, and “Uciec jak miłość” by Janusz Zaorski, in which she played her first bold bed scenes. Her role in the crime film “Mrs. Zuzy’s Diamonds” based on Jerzy Siewierski also made a lot of noise. Thanks to the scene in which she appeared topless, she was called the editor-in-chief of the Polish People’s Republic, and not only that, because her breasts were hailed as the titular diamonds. And although at the beginning she willingly used her beauty to get new roles, over time it began to bother her that she was pigeonholed. She finally made the decision to retire from the industry.
Halina Golanko gave up her career and started a family. The love of her life was the co-creator of “Columbia”
The end of her career coincided with changes in her private life. On the set of “Kolumby” she met Andrzej Kotkowski, with whom she fell head over heels in love. Shortly afterwards, the director, who was 8 years her senior, became her husband and they had two children. She decided to devote herself entirely to raising them, completely avoiding the limelight and publicity. “It’s all thanks to Andrzej. He always believed in me,” she said after her beloved’s death in January 2016.
Golanko has repeatedly stressed that she does not intend to return to acting, but she made an exception when he offered her a role in the drama “Persona non grata”, which won four Eagles. After that, she appeared in several more productions and eventually stepped back into the background. “In this profession, you have to be around, exist, promote yourself, not let yourself be forgotten. And I’m tired of it,” she said years later. Since then, she has rarely given interviews or appeared in public. As Onet reports, the actress currently lives with her daughter in Zanzibar.
