“Reindeer” turned out to be the surprise of the year and a huge hit for Netflix. The miniseries has been watched by almost 85 million users since its premiere in April. The result allowed the production to replace the first season of “The Witcher” in the top of the most watched series on the service. However, “Reindeer” apart from the streak of successes also brought Netflix a lawsuit. “The real Martha”, i.e. Fiona Harvey, whose relationship with the creator of the series we can see on the screen, demanded 170 million dollars in damages from the company. The woman claims that the production included false information and that the Netflix hit destroyed her life.
The creator of “Reniferek” is working on a new series. “Lions” is being created for HBO
The popular series was created by Richard Gadd, who decided to tell the story of his traumas through the series. The comedian played himself in the production and touched millions of viewers around the world. “‘Reindeer’ is a phenomenal study of trauma and an important perspective of a man who, fighting for his dreams and position in a patriarchal world, did not find space within himself to take care of his fear and doubts. Instead, he covered his complexes and shame with another layer of appearances, which ended in his a personal tragedy,” I wrote in my review after watching the series.
Gadd, encouraged by the popularity of “Reindeer,” decided not to part ways with creating pictures. However, he will not make a new series for Netflix, but for HBO. Gadd’s new project will be titled “Lions” and will answer the question “What does it mean to be a man?”. The six-episode drama will present viewers with the story of two characters spread over decades. The characters are connected by a very complicated past.
“Lions” – a new series from the creator of “Reniferek”. What will it be about?
“When Niall’s “brother” Ruben, with whom he had not been in touch for a long time, shows up at his wedding, emotions escalate and take us back in time. The series will show events from the 80s to the present. It’s almost 40 years of ups and downs in the relationship of two people close to each other. From their meeting in their teens to their separation when they were adults. The series will capture not only the good, the bad, the terrible, the funny and the difficult moments in the characters’ lives, but also the energy of a changing world,” we read in the description of the production quoted by Deadline.
Richard Gadd will be responsible for the series’ script and will be its executive producer. The film will be directed by Alexandra Brodsky and Eshref Reybrouck. The premiere date of the series is not yet known, and we also do not know whether the new story of the creator of “Reindeer”, like the Netflix hit, will contain elements of Gadd’s biography.
