Last week, the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) decided on a competition for broadcasting digital terrestrial television on MUX-8. The spots were awarded to right-wing broadcasters TV Republika and wPolsce.pl, and the proceedings in this case lasted only two months.
The terrestrial broadcasting competition was resolved quickly. Two right-wing news stations won
One of the members of the National Council, Prof. Tadeusz Kowalski, did not participate in the vote. In a statement sent to the media, he said that in his opinion the adoption of the resolution was carried out “in violation of the principle of due diligence resulting from the lack of sufficient information about the applicants and ignoring some economic opinions.”
In turn, the owner of the MWE Networks Group, which wanted to broadcast the Polska24 channel on terrestrial television, also wants to appeal against the decision of the National Broadcasting Council. In its justification, it also refers to the statement of Prof. Kowalski, who was also of the opinion that the submitted applications “were not verified thoroughly enough”.
The head of the National Broadcasting Council sees no problem in the competition. “I will issue a concession decision”
However, Maciej Świrski, the head of the National Council, has a different opinion. Last Thursday, he was a guest on Miłosz Kłeczek’s program on TV Republika. During the conversation, he referred to Professor Kowalski’s allegations and the announced cancellations of the losing broadcasters. An employee of Sakiewicz’s station also asked him directly whether the station’s license for terrestrial broadcasting could be withdrawn.
– I don’t see any reasons for this. This concerns the statements of Mr. Kowalski, who is a member of the National Council and indignantly said that he would not take part in the vote on concessions in MUX-8. When I asked if he watched TV Republika, he replied that he didn’t watch it. Everyone can say whatever they like in a free country, said Świrski.
Officially, I don’t know anything about any lawsuits or applications submitted to the court to change the mode of this competition. When they appear, we will wonder what to do with this item. The decision is at the stage of becoming final. There is a procedure related to arrangements with the Office of Electronic Communications. They should last about a week or two weeks. When the decision of the President of UKE is issued regarding the technical details of this license, I will issue a license decision under the regulations for the entities that won this competition, i.e. Republika and Telewizja wPolsce24 – he added.
Świrski accuses Kowalski of a “racist approach” and attacks the “left-liberal elite”
Maciej Świrski also allowed himself to criticize the professor of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology of the University of Warsaw, who was elected as a member of the National Broadcasting Council by the Senate of the previous term. -Professor Kowalski said that two right-wing television stations received licenses. Here I see a kind of “racist approach” in quotation marks. Racism is a form of discrimination due to certain features: national, character, race – says the head of the National Broadcasting Council.
In Poland, people with conservative views are treated as subhumans by the left-liberal elite. Here I see manifestations of this racism in relation to such televisions as TV Republika or wPolsce24 – he concluded in Miłosz Kłeczek’s show.
