More and more often, we come across a situation where companies provide employees with company cars. This is an attractive addition that we also like to use outside working hours. Can we go on a family vacation with such a car? Check in what situations this will be possible.
Can a company car be used privately? Not everyone knows that
Some employers allow the use of company cars for private purposes, but this must be clearly written in the company’s fleet policy. This is a list of rules that govern the use of vehicles during and outside working hours. Most often, such conditions depend on the position you hold, and the privilege of freely using a company car is treated as a bonus. In what situation can you legally drive such a car? You will do this without any problems if your fleet policy includes one of two provisions:
- The employee can move around in a company car without any restrictions. In this case, you can take your family on vacation wherever you want.
- The employee may travel in a company car without any restrictions, only within the country. If the fleet policy includes such a provision, you can use a company car to go to the Polish mountains or the Baltic Sea, but you should not use it to cross the Polish border. There are consequences for this, which are determined in advance by employers.

Can you drive a company car abroad? Check what you need to take care of
If your company’s fleet policy states that you can use your company car freely during your private time, you can take it abroad. However, remember that you must meet a few conditions for such a trip to go smoothly. First of all, obtain written consent from the vehicle owner (a person authorized by the employer or lessor).. Such a document will save you a lot of nerves at border crossings. Before leaving, be sure to check the scope of your third party liability/AC insurance. You probably wouldn’t want to experience a car breakdown in the middle of a foreign country without being able to get help. Some countries require a green card, so when planning your holiday, check whether you will need it. Unfortunately, it cannot be purchased at the border, and failure to do so may result in an entry ban to a given country. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
