Polish women will award Oscars! The Academy announced new names

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited new members to its ranks. Among the 487 names there were two Polish women: Małgorzata Karpiuk and Magdalena Górka.

As every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited new faces to its group. Although artists who have received an invitation from the Academy still have to confirm it, when everyone does so, the number of members of the organization will be almost 11,000 people. There are already many Poles among them, but in 2024 two new names were invited.

Oscars. Two Polish women invited to become members of the Academy

The large list of 487 invitees included two Polish names. Among the costume designers is Małgorzata Karpiuk, who worked on nominated and award-winning productions: “Strefa biznes” and “Aida”, and in previous years, among others. on “Essential Killing” or “Blinded by the Lights”. Magdalena Górka received an invitation from among film cameramen. Her portfolio also includes numerous nominated and awarded productions, such as “Fabelmen” by Spielberg, “An Ordinary Man” by Silberling, “A Good Way to Die”, and the series: “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, “Destination: Night”, “Doom Patrol” and many others.

Górka and Karpiuk will co-decide which productions will receive nominations for the statuette next year. As every year, names that one might think have been on the list for a long time were also invited to the Academy. From 2024, members of the Academy will include Catherine O’Hara, Jessica Alba, Lily Gladstone and Kate Mara. Of the 487 people invited, 44% are women. Next year’s Oscars will be presented on March 2. So far, relatively few productions are in the race, but the “Oscar” season has not yet started. Most of the films that will later want to compete for the statuette will hit cinemas in the second half of the year.
