Adrenaline-filled gameplay and great emotions in a hit thriller series. “A simple matter” is not that simple at all – the entire season on CANAL+ online

A lonely vigilante cleans up in a lawless city and feels no fear. That’s how we know that, right? This is a model from a story about the Wild West. In the sensational series “A Simple Matter” there is also a noble hero who will stop at nothing, but the action rushes headlong into the landscapes of the Karkonosze Mountains. The hit CANAL+ series, the script of which was based on Wojtek Chmielarz’s bestseller, is now fully available on CANAL+ online.

“A Simple Matter” is a six-episode action series that will keep you in suspense from beginning to end. This production was prepared by the team behind the success of “Furioza”, including: director and screenwriter Cyprian T. Olencki and actor Mateusz Damiêcki. In “Furioza” Damiêcki played the role of Golden, here he is the Nameless One. While Golden always tried to be in the foreground, the Nameless One does everything to stay in the shadow and not be noticed. Does he succeed? No, because as it turns out, “trouble is his specialty.”

The series “A Simple Matter” has its book prototype. It is a bestseller written by Wojciech Chmielarz, one of the most respected authors of crime novels. He started making this story during the pandemic. He published subsequent episodes on social media. It was a hit, the readers were enchanted. The novel was published in 2020 – it was a revised and expanded version of what appeared on Facebook. It didn’t take long for “A Simple Thing” to attract the attention of filmmakers.

The first day of summer in Jelenia Góra

The action begins on the first day of summer. The Nameless One comes to Jelenia Góra. A baseball cap pulled over his eyes protects his face from prying eyes. He only has a military backpack, an old cell phone and some cash in his pocket. The muscular figure is framed by a T-shirt and cargo pants. What or who is he looking for in Jelenia Góra?

The Nameless One came to Jelenia Góra to meet his old friend, Prosty. He has a debt to repay, and honorary debts must be paid. There is no simple one at home, the apartment is demolished. While the Nameless One is looking around, local gangsters appear. A fight breaks out. It’s 1-0 for the Nameless One. He fights as if he were a highly trained commando. There will be many more bloody fights.

The mafia rules here

This is how the complicated and surprising plot of “A Simple Matter” begins. Nothing here is simple or as it seems at first. Mystery follows mystery. Jelenia Góra is something like Gotham City overrun by gangsters, and the main villain is Kazik, a former policeman who turned into a ruthless and very cruel gangster.

Kazik was brilliantly played by Piotr Adamczyk – a role that surprises and charms. His Kazik is a complex, mysterious and ambiguous character. He can kill without blinking an eye and then stare with love into the face of the woman he loves. Kazik, a former policeman, is shaking up Jelenia Góra. Everyone is afraid of him because he has some trick for everyone, and the local commander is “detectable” thanks to him.

In the first episode of the series, a taxi driver, played by Maciej Damiêcki, explains to the Nameless Man that Kazik in Jelenia Góra “takes care of everything, house parties pay him, brothels pay him, he has receipts for everyone, he sells drugs and stimulants at school (… ) If someone has any problems with the law, they must go to him, because he has everyone in his pocket.

The scene in the taxi, in which father and son, i.e. Maciej Damiêcki and Mateusz Damiêcki, played together, has a unique dimension. It was the last role played by the outstanding actor Maciej Damiêcki.

A thicket of puzzles

From episode to episode, the action of “A Simple Matter” becomes thicker and more complicated. In Jelenia Góra and its surroundings, the influence of three powerful criminal groups intersects – one is the one ruled by Kazik, the second – a ruthless motorcycle gang commanded by Zbój (Micha³ Gadomski), and the third – the Czech mafia with Ed± (Ivan Franek) at the helm. None of these organizations are a joke, and the Nameless One, while looking for “Simple”, is messing with all of them.

Flashbacks from the Nameless One’s past appear throughout the series. From these scraps of memory you can try to create his story – a shooting, a prison ambulance, a meeting with an older man (Daniel Olbrychski) who advises him to “hide at the end of the rainbow” and not get into any more trouble. problems. What to do, however, if the Nameless One cannot not get involved, if the good of others is at stake. And the case of Prosty, who has a little daughter suffering from cancer and all the local bandits on his back, is particularly close to his heart.

“A Simple Thing” pulsates with fights and chases, one unexpected event follows another. Just when the audience thinks they already know what’s going on, there is a sudden twist. As befits a well-written story, there are also humorous and romantic elements. There are also many interesting sociological observations. The Nameless One also experiences his love story, and his partner, a young journalist, has a very complicated past.

“A Simple Matter” is a new quality in Polish action series. There is a precisely told, multi-layered and multi-threaded story, there are excellent photos and fantastic fight choreography. Cyprian T. Olencki and his team found many surprising solutions. The series also featured, among others: Mateusz Kmiecik as Czacha, Maciej Musia³ as Elephant and the demonic Colossus. Magdalena Wieczorek and Izabela Kuna also play excellent roles.

The series “A Simple Matter” debuted on the CANAL+ online platform on May 17. It has six episodes and all of them are now available. They were published successively every week, and now viewers will be able to “devour” them at once, because it is really difficult to break away from this series. The CANAL+ online platform also includes, among others: the series “¯mijowisko” and the film “Wyrwa”, other addictive productions based on Wojtek Chmielarz’s prose.
