The times of adapting your activities to the broadcast of your favorite series or movie on TV are gone forever. Thanks to numerous streaming platforms, for years we have been able to decide when and what we will watch. However, a wide selection of services also comes with costs.
Netflix for Free? The Company Is Testing a New Plan
The most popular streaming platform in Poland is still . For access to the website’s content in high quality 4K or HDR, you have to pay PLN 60 per month. This is a considerable amount, especially considering the fact that many people subscribe to several websites with films and series at the same time.
It’s no wonder that users are increasingly willing to give up the highest quality of their favorite productions to pay less. Many Netflix customers not only prefer to watch movies and series in quality up to 1080p or 720p, but also choose a package with advertising. The plan, in which the content is interrupted by advertising materials, is very popular thanks to its attractive price.
Therefore, Netflix is considering introducing another solution to its offer. According to Bloomberg, the platform is considering a completely free plan for using the website’s resources. This option is supposed to have much more advertising to compensate for the losses. Netflix has reportedly been experimenting with the idea in Kenya and is now considering rolling it out to a broader market: Asia and Europe.
Even more ads on Netflix. The website is planning changes
Unofficial information from Bloomberg shows that Netflix wants to bypass the United States in its tests for now. Apparently, if the company decides to offer a free plan in additional countries, it will be Japan and Germany. If the reports turn out to be true, the introduction of the free ad-supported offer to additional countries will not happen quickly. Bloomberg emphasizes that the idea is only at the stage of internal negotiations.
However, Netflix’s idea is not as easy to implement as it may seem. The company’s free plan means a significant increase in the number of advertisers. According to research, Netflix ranks ninth among online players in terms of video advertising, but since its inception the company has marketed its services as “ad-free TV”, which is an obstacle to new strategies.
Bloomberg reports that the growth in the number of Netflix users will most likely slow down over the next year. The company will be forced to try to find profits in advertising.
