£ukasz Simlat did not watch the movie “Johnny”. Now he plays a therapist in Daniel Jaroszek’s new film [WYWIAD]

Daniel Jaroszek’s last and debut film was one of the biggest cinema hits of 2022. Over a million people went to see the film, and the director is now back with another production. In “Team AA” we meet four cross-addicted, anonymous alcoholics who attend a therapeutic center. To save the facility, they undertake to smuggle two tankers of spirit across Poland. For their own safety, they kidnap their therapist, Wojtek, on a journey.

Łukasz Simlat talked to real therapists before filming. But he didn’t watch “Johnny” on purpose

Moreover, the player of the title team is also a non-drinking alcoholic. Łukasz Simlat, who plays this character, admitted in an interview withkultura.gazeta.pl that although the film does not focus on the problem of addiction from a therapeutic perspective, before starting work on the set he sought advice from people who actually work with addicts:

I consulted and talked to people who are therapists and we now have such rich access to all kinds of materials available on the Internet that this area has not escaped me.

Due to this, the actor also had an influence on the film’s script. As he goes on to say, before working with Daniel Jaroszek he didn’t decide to watch “Johnny” because he “didn’t want to be influenced by certain things.” Simlat said that his own contribution with the film and a joint dialogue on this topic with the director are very important to him. – It is undoubtedly the common task of the actors to fill all these frames with the lives of all five of them – he said.

Simlat assures that the script is very well written. “It opens some doors”

However, when asked what his hero’s therapeutic methods were, he replied: – First of all, calmness. However, despite the fact that Wojtek is a very organized character, the actor admits that his character is surprised by the whole situation in which people from the therapeutic center he runs got him involved. Moreover, for him it will also be a fight against his demons, which he has been hiding until now.

This is the private darkness of this hero of mine. This is a past he cannot distance himself from. This is a kind of denial, says Łukasz Simlat about his hero.

The actor also announces that the film may change the fate of some people. – This script is a really well-written script and it opens certain doors and allows the viewer to see where things can go wrong, when life takes the wrong reins. But this scenario shows that you can move forward and dreams are worth it, he admits.
