Water, speed and lots of swirls are the recipe for a perfectly spent time. In some cases, the prescription may actually run out, but the real one, straight from the doctor. It turns out that water slides, especially popular in summer, can be really dangerous. Especially for women.
Water slides are just fun? Gynecologist: “They may cause vaginal injuries”
A woman sued a water park because she suffered injuries there that sound truly terrible. She went on one of the tallest and fastest slides. When she reached the very end, the force of the water caused it to enter her vagina and severely injure her. It appears that part of her intestine escaped through one of these wounds
– who professionally deals with gynecology. She explained that in the case of this particular slide, the body reaches a speed of approximately 65 km/h and falls at an angle of 60 degrees, i.e. almost vertically. At the end of the descent, it gains really great strength. People using this attraction are told to cross their legs, but this force can cause the body to jump into the air at the end. In such a situation, it is difficult to maintain the appropriate position.
– To sum up, anything with high force and speed can cause injuries – added the doctor. This is also confirmed by gynecologist Dr. Shannon M. Clark, who carefully analyzed the course of this type of injury when using such an attraction.
Water slides can cause vaginal injuries. Situations like this happen because water gets inside under high pressure. This can lead to vaginal injuries, serious bleeding, abdominal injuries, and even death
– she warned.
Should we only look at water slides with a critical eye? As the doctor emphasized, this type of injuries can also occur while water skiing, jet skiing, or using hoses or fountains with pressurized nozzles.
How to prepare for a water slide ride?
Does this mean that we are doomed to less intense fun? Not necessarily. If we are true connoisseurs of water slides and we cannot imagine giving them up, it is worth preparing appropriately. What else to remember? The gynecologist revealed the three most important issues that we should follow. They will allow us to reduce the risk of serious damage:
- Suitable protective clothing: wetsuit or shorts.
- Crossing your legs when using the slide and jumping into the water.
- Not using tampons: may increase the risk of serious internal damage.
It is worth adding that the basis is absolute compliance with the slide regulations. And we should definitely familiarize ourselves with this. Not everyone knows that some attractions are prohibited for women – precisely because of the high risk of injuries. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
