A private parking space is more valuable than gold. Someone took it from you? Check what to do

Arguments in parking lots happen almost every day. This applies not only to blocking cars and inappropriate parking. Another problem is “stealing” private seats by other drivers. What to do if someone takes over your private parking space? Everything depends on one thing.

Do you come back from work, a trip or shopping and see that there is another car in your parking space? Problems of this type appear not only during the holidays, when we visit family and friends more often. The shortage of spaces combined with the growing number of cars mean that fights break out even in private parking lots, where everyone has their own designated space. What to do if someone takes over your private parking space?

What are the penalties for taking a parking space? It all depends on one thing

The matter is simple when we are talking about a private or community parking lot, and the place itself is appropriately marked with an envelope and, for example, information about the license plate number or number. If the situation concerns a residential parking lot, there should also be signs indicating the residential zone, indicating that the parking lot is private and a vehicle parked in someone else’s space will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Once everything is properly marked and you park in your spot, you can call the city guard or the police. The services may decide to tow the car at the owner’s expense, but that’s not all. For taking someone else’s parking space, you may also be subject to a reprimand or a fine of up to PLN 5,000.

The problem arises when the site or parking lot is not properly marked. In such a situation, you cannot count on the help of the city guard or police. The exception is a security threat. You also do not have the right to tow it yourself, i.e. outsource it to a private company. This may result in consequences not for the car owner, but for you. Therefore, it is not worth acting on your own and trying to solve the problem illegally.

So how can you avoid problems when your private space isn’t properly marked? Prevention is the most effective here. Owners can install locks and erect bollards. However, the easiest way is to simply include information that the place is private and who it belongs to.
