We usually use chemical cleaning agents when cleaning the bathroom. Sometimes we mix them with home remedies to enhance their effect. It is worth knowing that some ingredients may react with each other and consequently have a negative impact on our health. Find out how we can harm ourselves with seemingly harmless substances.
What detergents should not be mixed? Be careful, it may result in poisoning
Do you sometimes mix vinegar with ready-made cleaning products? Never do this because by doing so you are playing with your health. Lack of knowledge about the chemical reactions taking place may result in allergies, burns, and in exceptional situations also poisoning. What connection do we need to watch out for?
- The most frequently used cleaning substance is vinegar. Rightly so, because it copes with most dirt and works well when washing or dishwashing. However, the problem occurs when we use it in combination with chemical detergents, e.g. toilet fluid or bleach. The chlorine contained in them will begin to escape as soon as it reacts with the acid. This, in turn, is extremely dangerous for our lungs.
- Never mix bleach and rubbing alcohol. Even though at first glance it seems like an excellent stain-removing combination, it should be avoided like the plague. When we mix both substances, chloroform begins to be released. It may damage the eyes, skin and have a very negative effect on the respiratory and nervous systems.
WARNING! Toxic substances are produced not only when mixing vinegar with strong cleaning agents. If you immediately wipe the surface with vinegar using purchased products, chlorine will also start to be released into the air, causing irritation.

How does baking soda react with vinegar? Each of us has used this popular mix at least once
You’ve probably heard about the brilliant properties of baking soda and vinegar. Each of these ingredients is an invaluable help when performing daily cleaning. We often combine them to obtain a multifunctional cleaning paste, but are we really doing it right? It turns out that not necessarily. If we mix baking soda and vinegar, a chemical reaction occurs and the mixture begins to foam. We have just lost great detergents because this produces sodium acetate, carbon dioxide and water, and none of these three substances have cleaning properties.
